Accidental? I think not

A high school friend of mine sent me this link to a picture that purports to explain why you should not put Christmas lights on a palm tree. My counterarguments are that a) most palm trees are taller than this and it would be a pain in the butt to put lights on them, and 2) this dude clearly did this on purpose:
